Two men broke into the woman’s home and attacked her. They gave her an intimidating message: “We’re not here to rob you; we’re here to kill you. We were paid to do this”. Before leaving, they sprayed “VLLC” on the walls, in reference to the Libertarian slogan “Viva la libertad carajo”.
The National Network of HIJOS (an acronym for “Hijos por la Identidad y la Justicia contra el Olvido y el Silencio”, meaning in English “Sons and Daughters for Identity and Justice Against Forgetfulness and Silence”) released a statement this morning denouncing that one member of the organization was attacked by two men who broke into her home, where she was “beaten, sexually abused and threatened to death”.
According to the statement, the assailants broke into the woman’s home by forcing the door open and gave her an intimidating message: “We’re not here to rob you; we’re here to kill you. We were paid to do this”.
The Human Rights organization, founded by children of people forcibly disappeared during the 1976-1983 civic-military dictatorship, published a text on social media pointing out that they are “preserving” the victim’s identity and underlined that this was “a political attack”.
“These events are clearly related to the hate speech and actions that the country’s current authorities express on a daily basis and the way they encourage violence against Human Rights activists like ourselves. The National Network of HIJOS demands the immediate elucidation of this case by the Judiciary and we hold the national government responsible for the attack”, the statement reads.
In this sense, they emphasized that “just a few days away from a new anniversary of the coup d’état, we maintain that the Argentine people has said: Never again! Memory, Truth and Justice, always!”.
